Delta Chat – invitation

Hello! I’d like to invite you to try out Delta Chat – a secure alternative to popular messaging apps like WhatsApp. Users don’t have to provide their phone number, which parents of children and teenagers will especially appreciate because it offers greater privacy. Thanks to end‑to‑end encryption, the app guarantees confidential conversations, eliminating the data‑collection problem posed by large tech corporations. Delta Chat runs on proven e‑mail infrastructure, but you don’t need to worry about that 😉. All you need to do is create an account on any publicly available server. Below is a short setup guide 👇🏻

Step-by-step guide ℹ️

1. Download Delta Chat.
2. When you launch the app for the first time, create new profile. By default, the app creates an account on the official relay. You can, however, choose a less crowded server, for example: mailchat.pl. To do this, select "Use other server" then browse the list of chatmail servers.
3. When setting up the profile, enter your nickname and optionally add a profile picture.

To start chatting, you need to add a few friends as contacts. This can be done in two ways.

• In person. During a meeting you can scan a friend’s or family member’s QR code. It works both ways. You’ll find the appropriate icon in the upper‑right corner or when you start a new chat (the plus sign at the bottom). Remember to grant the app permission to access the camera.
• Remotely. The steps are similar, except that instead of scanning the code you share a special link that points to your profile. It’s best to send this link via another secure messenger, but you can also use SMS. If it's you who receives the link, just tap it and the chat will begin.

Look out ⚠️

If, for some reason, notifications don't work reliably, go to the notification settings and enable "force background connection" (the option applies to mobile devices only).

At the moment the app does not support voice calls. However, you can still send voice messages.

Did you know...? 💡

Delta Chat supports interactive apps that you can add to any chat. For example, try a shopping list, the language game Wonster, or Tetris 😃.

The app can be installed on multiple devices, such as a smartphone and a laptop.

Saved messages is a special chat where you can create short notes, try out apps, or transfer files between your own devices.
